This is the first time Vogelsong has made such an honor and is the only Giant to join this year’s team after he posted a 3.37 ERA, a career-best 14-9 record and a 1.212 WHIP. His 1.7 WAR was the third best among Giants starters last year behind Matt Cain (3.5) and Madison Bumgarner (1.8).
After a remarkable comeback career, Vogelsong looks to add to his latest accolades such as being voted into the National League All-Star team in 2011 as well as placing 11th in the 2011 NL Cy Young award voting.
Last year, Vogelsong was quoted saying he felt snubbed from the 2012 All-star team after putting up a 11-5 record and leading the NL in ERA with 2.36.
In the postseason, Vogelsong was one of the game’s elite in his first four playoff starts in his career. He was 3-0 with a 1.09 ERA in 24.2 innings while allowing just thee runs against the Reds, Cardinals and Tigers.
The tournament begins March 8th and the semi-finals will be played at Vogelsong’s home turf at AT&T Park from March 17-19.
